Offered in 2 Locations:
Highland, NY
Friday, March 16, 2012
Cambridge, MA
Friday, April 13, 2012
Trainer: Rebecca Walters, MS, LMHC, LCAT, TEP
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a comprehensive cognitive behavioral therapy that has evolved into a sophisticated treatment for individuals with many different diagnoses. DBT skills training focuses on teaching and strengthening skills necessary for emotion regulation. In the hands of therapists without a background in experiential therapies DBT skills training tends to be purely cognitive and didactic in nature. Many times the client experiences the material as dry or difficult to learn. Skills training groups differ when led by someone trained in psychodrama. Psychodrama will enliven your skills groups in new ways. It offers experiential learning of core mindfulness, emotional regulation, interpersonal effectiveness, and distress tolerance.
THIS WORKSHOP IS NOT AN INTRO TO DBT.
It is expected that all participants will have prior training/experience with DBT or be trained in psychodrama.
Overnight accommodations are available at
New York location.

Psychodrama in
Individual Therapy
Highland, NY
Thursday, April 5, 2012
Trainer: Judy Swallow, MA, LCAT, TEP
Psychodrama is usually thought of as a group method but its applications to individual therapy and counseling are many and profound. "Talking about" what happened is very different than bringing an issue into the present and engaging the whole person in the moment. Participants in this workshop will learn and practice a variety of action techniques that will enliven your therapy sessions and give you useful tools to help your clients uncover and express feelings in a safe way, heal old wounds and develop more satisfying roles in their lives.
Affordable overnight accommodations are available.

Playback, Sociodrama & Psychodrama
Berkeley, CA
Sponsored by the Bay Area Moreno Institute
Friday evening, April 27
through Sunday afternoon,
April 29, 2012
Trainer: Judy Swallow, MA, LCAT, TEP
What is Playback Theatre? What is Psychodrama? What is Sociodrama? How are each of these forms different? How are they similar? When and where is the best way each can be used? How can one be used in the service of the other?
This workshop will give a general review of each of these action methods. We will then explore how they work, experiencing their differences, similarities, and how they might interface. We will discover how to determine when each method can best serve specific populations and situations.
Experienced practitioners will be able to contribute their skills and ideas, while anybody who is curious and willing to engage with these forms will get a taste of the world of action methods. This workshop is appropriate for group leaders, teachers, therapists, social activists, and other similarly-minded people.
